A Call to Ministry is a Call to Preparation

The Manual of the Church of the Nazarene requires every ordained pastor to continue his professional development efforts for a life-time.  As a minimum, 2 Continuing Education Credits must be earned each year. The general church, district church, Nazarene Theological Seminary and Olivet Nazarene University offer opportunities each year to fulfill this requirement. There are also several approved programs offered by other entities that are eligible for CEU credit. Check with the district secretary of ministerial studies if you have a question about whether or not your program is approved.

This page will link you to several of the opportunities available. Click on the hyperlinked text to visit the corresponding web pages.

One approach to CEUs is to follow the church-size strategies developed by the general church.

The Church Development Institute (formerly known as Small Church Institute) is designed to serve pastors of churches with an average worship attendance of less than 100.

The School of Leadership Development (formerly known as Intermediate Church Initiative) is designed to serve pastors of churches with an average worship attendance of 100-350.

The K-Church program is designed for pastors of churches with an attendance greater than 350.

Olivet Nazarene University offers an annual Holiness Lecture Series on her campus in Bourbonnais, Illinois.

The Chicago Central District offers occasional CEU events, including one during Pastors Reporting Days. Information is mailed or emailed to each local pastor with details of these events.

In 2004, the Regional PALCON 2004 was held on Olivet's campus, bringing together pastors from Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan. What a wonderful time of renewal, fellowship, prayer, information, and inspiration!  If you attended and did not fill out a CEU credit form, you may download or print out the attached CEU form (MS Word format) and indicate which sessions you attended at the ONU Palcon.
